Do you want to lend with purpose? With CAF’s social investment team you’ll be responsible for the origination, assessment and management of loans to charities and social enterprises, strengthening their resilience and enabling greater social impact. You’ll identify and showcase effective models of impact, actively manage portfolio risk and steward philanthropic capital by aligning funders’ goals with the needs of social purpose organisations, working together with colleagues to drive meaningful change.
We’re looking for a talented Investment Manager to join our Social Investment Team at Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).
What you’ll do
At CAF, every one of us contributes to our impact, and as our Investment Manager you too will play an integral part in what we do.
You’ll work as part of the Social Investment team lending philanthropic capital to social purpose organisations – building a more resilient social enterprise sector and greater impact outcomes. You’ll develop a pipeline of opportunities and will be responsible for critically analysing potential investments through a social and financial lens, and present your written recommendation to our impact committee.
As our Investment Manager you will:
- Evaluating loan applications from charities, social enterprises and community groups seeking to scale their social impact through repayable finance and strengthen organisational resilience
- Lead the due diligence process for new social investment opportunities, including site visits, financial and impact analysis, peer reviews and the preparation of high-quality recommendations to the Impact Committee; ensuring social impact objectives and financial risk are appropriately balanced, supported by robust sensitivity analysis
- Track, monitor and oversee a proportion of the social investment portfolio, proactively monitoring social impact, financial performance and risk profile, refreshing due diligence, and preparing loan variations where required
- Drive repeat investments and contribute to the development of new investment opportunities
- Provide support and advice to social purpose organisations, where appropriate, within wider CAF programmes building organisational resilience.
- Monitor and evaluate the social impact of the investment portfolio, identifying compelling case studies to support fundraising and stakeholder engagement
Who you’ll be
This role is for you if you have experience of working in a financial, business or charity environment or have relevant transferable skills and are keen to make a difference to society.
We are looking for:
- A team player who can well with others and share knowledge
- Strong financial skills and highly numerate
- A strong track record of lending, assessing financial data, or grant-making
- A good understanding of impact-focused social investment
- A passion for supporting social enterprises, charities and community groups of all shapes and sizes and the ability to understand and empathise with a range of social needs and charitable activities
- A proven ability to manage multiple activities and prioritise accordingly
- Self-motivated with the ability to thrive in a busy, collaborative team, demonstrating adaptability and flexibility
- The ability to confidently develop new relationships and work with a range of stakeholders
