The Charities Aid Foundation exists to accelerate progress in society towards a fair and sustainable future for all. We collaborate with corporate and individual donors to enable them to give more effectively, strategically and impactfully. This includes connecting them to charities globally and providing access to our in-depth sector knowledge, governance expertise and innovative giving solutions.

 

We help social purpose organisations to strengthen their resilience and do more of their life changing work, through strategic consultancy services from our Impact Accelerator, tools to support charities’ fundraising activities, and charity financial services from CAF Bank Limited and CAF Financial Solutions Limited. Using our research, policy and campaigns work, we understand and influence the wider environment for charities and donors.

 

CAF’s Impact Accelerator

The Impact Accelerator is CAF’s centre of excellence for impact. Through bespoke impact consultancy, grantmaking and social investment, we aim to drive positive change in the sector, influencing donors to fund more effectively and supporting the resilience of charities and social enterprises to become more resilient and sustainable.

 

CAF Impact Committee

The Impact Committee is a delegated committee of the CAF Group Executive Committee. The Impact Committee serves as the primary decision-making body for CAF’s Impact Accelerator activities namely:

  • Social investment loans
  • Blended finance (loan and grant)
  • Grantmaking programmes using legacy or discretionary funds

It also provides oversight of the Impact Accelerator’s activities and performance.

 

The Impact Committee’s purpose is to approve support for charities and social enterprises by:

  • Considering and approving loan proposals and variations
  • Agreeing action to be taken to manage delinquent loans, including the taking of legal action and recommending the level of provisioning and write off
  • Considering and approving legacy grant programmes as well as distributions from CAF’s discretionary funds
  • Considering and approving blended finance proposals from CAF’s discretionary philanthropic funds
  • Acting as a sounding board for the Impact Accelerator team

Membership of the committee consists of CAF employees including Managing Director of Charities Aid Foundation, the Group Chief Financial Officer and the Chief Commercial Officer (CAF Bank) as well as two non-executive members. The Chair of the Impact Committee is the Managing Director.

 

Meetings are held on a monthly basis (except for August) and usually run for up to 2.5 hours.

 

About the role

We are looking for a committee member, who would be happy to commit to monthly meetings for a minimum three-year term.

We are committed to building an Impact Committee that is diverse, inclusive and able to identify with the challenges faced by charities and social enterprises, including accessing funding.  

 

We are looking for committee members with one or more of the following skills:

  • Significant experience in lending/investment (early stage, social investment,  impact investing, high-risk);
  • Significant experience of delivering, evaluating and scaling social impact;
  • Charity/social enterprise leadership experience (CEO, finance director or other senior position, board member, particularly if you have experience of investment);
  • Experience in grantmaking.

 

Terms of appointment

  • The Impact Committee meets monthly (except for August). Papers are circulated prior to meetings and will require review ahead of meetings.
  • Meetings are in-person in our London office, hybrid format available.
  • We ask committee members to commit to a minimum three-year term, with the potential for an extension for a further three years.
